Garden

Hello there Pop!

Here are some pictures of my garden as it's coming along.

The main garden is a 1.5 foot x 50 foot plot up against the fence. Good soil now. Last year we planted either a rose bush or a rosemary bush every 5 foot. They are primarily for the next owners--I just wanted to get them established and looking good before we try to sell our place in the next year or two.

Here is one of my kale plants. Once or twice a week I'll cut off four of the leaves, tear them into pieces, and bake them in the oven with salt and olive oil. They make some really tasty chips. This plant is from last fall, and had no problem making it through the winter.

The stem of the kale plant is giant! It's at least three inches around.

These are both of our kale plants, on either side of a yellow rose. On the right side is a tomato and a cucumber as well.

One of the cucumber vines, getting ready to scale its trellis again. The trellis is made from an old dog kennel that someone threw away. I cut it into pieces, and actually trained several berry vines on other pieces from it.

This is the new side garden! I planted it last year also, but with limited success. A ton of compost that was added last year is starting to rebuild the soil. You can stick your shovel in the ground back here and find tons of earthworms. Last year, nothing.

Rows of bush beans and peas up front, with vines starting to grow up the trellis frames. Everything except for the tomatoes was started from seeds.

New experiment: I'm growing my tomatoes up ropes this year instead of using a cage.

This is fig tree that we planted last year. The main branch died back, but it put out 5 new shoots from the base!

There were 10-12 bean plants growing all around this rose, but something came along and ate every leaf off of them! Still investigating what my issue is.

Tomato on left, asparagus and beans mixed in the middle.

Another tomato growing up a rope.

I'll keep you posted on our progress here on Tater Tot Farm. Have a great day sir!
